Emergency Planning

North Shore Emergency Management Evacuation Guide

https://nsem.ca/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/NorthShore_EvacuationPlan.pdf

A great tool to help you build a strong emergency plan

Fire Safety Planning

Know the Exits
Install Smoke Alarms

Familiarize yourself with all the exits in the building, including stairwells and emergency exits.

Test smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries as needed.

Create an Escape Plan

Develop a detailed escape plan with all members of the household.
Practice the escape plan regularly with everyone in the household, including children and pets.

Keep Fire Extinguishers

Have fire extinguishers readily available in key locations, such as the kitchen and near potential fire hazards.

Ensure everyone knows how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

Stay Low in Smoke

If there is smoke during a fire, stay low to the ground where the air is cleaner and cooler.

Close Doors

Close all doors behind you as you exit to help contain the fire.
This can help slow down the spread of fire and smoke throughout the building.

Alert Others

If you discover a fire, immediately alert other residents by activating the building’s fire alarm system.
Alert emergency services by calling the appropriate emergency number.

Stay Outside

Once safely outside, stay outside. Do not re-enter the building for any reason until authorities declare it safe to do so.

Assist Others

If you can do so safely, assist elderly or disabled neighbours in evacuating the building.

Stay Informed

Stay informed about fire safety procedures and regulations in your building

Attend fire safety training sessions provided by your building/strata management.
